March 2009

Just had a great meal at Sapporo. Time to get on the Jeeps and head out into the desert. #gdeai

My biggest dev weakness is conditionals: I have to rejigger them too many times far too often. Usually with a lot of hand talk and matrices.

via web

@donniefitz2 You’d love working here. I can’t believe I’m coming up on my 4-year anniversary. I have done so much cool development.

via web

@donniefitz2 Check your direct messages. I got what you need…

via web

Ayn Rand’s dictum to “check your premises” has great applicability to programming.

These two articles in conjunction have really gotten me thinking: http://tr.im/hKDD and http://tr.im/hKDQ

@Dannabug We watched Twilight last night and we were aghast at how terrible an adaptation it was.

via web in reply to Dannabug

Finally got around to my chocolates from Boehm’s. Why why why why didn’t I buy more? Gah.

Tomorrow is all about getting back into the swing of things.

via web

We went to Pike Place Fish Market, saw the fish tossing, bought some smoked salmon, and my daughter licked a fish. The impulsive one.

via web

Back in PHX. Seattle really made me appreciate the 85024. It affirmed that I made the right decision to be born here.

via Twitter for iPhone

Boy do I hope unlimited data plan covers Seattle or I am ROYALLY screwed. In other news, the iPhone has proved invaluable on this trip.

via Twitter for iPhone

@mclazarus I agree completely. It’s not my cup of tea but it’s clear that some people like it and it has produced some interesting comments.

via Twitter for iPhone in reply to mclazarus

@mclazarus I think it’s futile, not worthless. Searches for LS will include these posts and that will negate any future claims to authority.

via Twitter for iPhone in reply to mclazarus

Redfin Sushi was awesome. I’d recommend it for sushi in downtown Seattle.

via Twitter for iPhone

Extra soup at Redfin Sushi! Great service. Now to see if the Yelp reviews on quality are similarly accurate.

via Twitter for iPhone

Finally a good deal!! $2.50 for coffee and hot cocoa at Starbucks.

via Twitter for iPhone

@hohle 4th and Wall. I think I’ve passed that area a dozen times doing the one-way endless circling that afflicts all downtowns.

via Twitter for iPhone in reply to hohle

We’re in Tukwila at a Target, which is the closest thing we’ve found to a supermarket. Do Washingtonians not shop for groceries??

via Twitter for iPhone

Seattle Aquarium is pretty sweet. I think Sea World may have set the kids’ expectations for sharkseeing, which led to slight disappointment.

via Twitter for iPhone

If the parking on this trip doesn’t bust our budget, I think the eating out will.

via Twitter for iPhone

Airport was better than expected. I’m now a skycap convert. Seattle is cold but the wind makes it frigid. 39th floor room at the Westin!!

via Twitter for iPhone

SEATAC is by far the most worrisome part of this trip for me. Four suitcases, stroller, four car seats, six backpacks, and four kids. :-/

via Twitter for iPhone

I am literally getting this show on the road.

via Twitter for iPhone

This suggests that the $99 iPhone Developer fee is annual but there’s nothing on the Apple site to suggest that: http://tr.im/hm3Y Am I off?

via web

@kristabellerina Inscrutability is an occupational hazard of a developer working on non-public products. My tweets can’t make sense. Sorry.

via web in reply to kristabellerina

Reverse engineering complete. It was quite an educational experience. It also proved to me that this issue is insoluble through tech alone.

via web

The cool-looking technology turned out be nothing more than screen-scraping and caching. Sometimes it’s hard being in the sausage factory.

via web

@sanbient Point taken. I’ve been on the right end of that and it was horrible; I think the wrong end would be far worse.

via web in reply to sanbient

If there’s something more mind-numbing than reverse-engineering functionality from JavaScript, I can’t think of it.

Walk to Costco, drive to In ‘N’ Out, eat Samurai Sam’s. The inner cheapskate confronts the inner lazy man. A perennial battle…

via web

I can’t decide what to do for lunch. This is a daily problem for me. I wish I had the luck of my Gilbert brethren, who have a Sonic nearby.

via web

I am astounded at the amount of passive-aggressive, work-related tweets I read. Would they blog that or say it in person? I don’t get it.

via web

Phew. The one person I know who would be affected by the CPSIA has limited her exposure by not marketing to children. Bullet dodged.

via web

“Self-described serial entrepreneur”? When copy goes bad.

via web

@walterolson It is a tremendous help! I had no idea that the damage was so pernicious and pervasive. I’ll be blogging about it as well.

The More Cowbell app now features less cowbell? Come on, I’ve got a fever. There’s only one prescription.

I submitted my class topic for Go Daddy’s May TechFest. Coordinator liked it so here’s hoping I can present!

Deplorable entry: http://tr.im/hdEZ Is this true? “Ayn Rand is the only novelist whose work has been read by every single US Congressman.”

via tr.im

Why do I continue to drink Diet Dr. Pepper? Seriously! Sorry, Digestive System, I won’t do this again. Let’s just ride this one out.

@DianaHsieh Heh, your ratio is doing pretty well. I don’t think I was referring to anyone in particular.

via Twitter for iPhone in reply to DianaHsieh

Maybe I should make a Twitter client that automatically generates a food-tweet ratio w/ an autounfollow threshold. I’d like that quantified.

via Twitter for iPhone

@peterbromberg I think that was Goldwater who said that. And a Founding Father said something like it before that.

via Twitter for iPhone in reply to peterbromberg

There’s a wealth of hard-won experience behind these but they sure are cynical: http://tr.im/haH5

@mwickens I can’t fathom how someone could forget his kid in a car, no matter the ostensive reason. Also, that’s got to be a cruel death.

via Twitter for iPhone in reply to mwickens

I am so glad that my wife cares about blog entry categorization as much as I do. On my other blog, no one cares and it’s driving me nuts.

via Twitter for iPhone

@mclazarus Same here. I like the liberal license (home and work computers) plus the iPhone app with three-way WebDAV sync.

via Twitter for iPhone in reply to mclazarus

I am astounded at how much circulation the “Going Galt” meme is getting. That is very heartening.

via web

ReSharper is a great tool and I wouldn’t develop without it, but the upgrades are painful, lossy trials that simply aren’t worth the hassle.

via web

Past ReSharper upgrades: download, install, find out our license doesn’t work, uninstall, find old copy, reinstall. Now: revert to snapshot.

via web

Here’s our first glimpse of the results of a recent photoshoot: http://tr.im/h616 I think this one is going to be expensive.

via web

Ugh, I’m still sick today but I’ve got no sick time. Typhoid Bill’s going to the office.

via web

For such a small computer with an underpowered CPU, no hard drive, and a tiny screen, this thing sure runs out of juice quickly.

via web

I’m definitely a Firefox over Chrome guy but this Dell netbook needs the screen-maximizing goodness of Chrome. I haven’t opened Firefox yet.

via web

@mossoffa I think it’s a valid term as long as it’s narrowed to a sense of entitlement. I don’t think you can spoil an infant, for example.

via web in reply to mossoffa

Finally got all of the necessary Windows updates installed and the wireless configured. Warming up to the keyboard…

via web

With a screen this small, I think my aversion to chrome is going to deepen significantly.

via web

@mwickens sounds about right. I’m hoping it will be a decent blogging machine for my @newclarion work. Keyboard will take some adjustment.

via Twitter for iPhone in reply to mwickens

Dude, I got a Dell. I never thought I’d say that. Blame @mwickens.

My favorite Fusion flip-out is when it reverses the primary and secondary monitors: http://twitpic.com/1trju

via Twitter for iPhone

I’ve finally conquered my Mac/Windows VM networking conflict. I want Fusion’s Bridging but I have to have NAT for the Mac to be recognized.

via web

@matthewbaldwin Perhaps you need to put out a call for sniglets on your blog. I loved the Cliche Rotation Project.

via web in reply to matthewbaldwin

Flock is moving to Chrome?! http://tr.im/gYdG Starting over from scratch is *almost never* a good idea—big time never if you’re a startup.

via web

I am seriously digging the new @mc_lars album This Gigantic Robot Kills.

via Twitter for iPhone

Just finished up a huge blog entry (3,149 words) @newclarion for publication tomorrow morning. #goodthing

via web

The BitTorrent download led me to purchase his new album via iTunes so I guess it worked out well for him.

via web

Just downloaded my first CDs using BitTorrent! I feel so dirty but the artist told me to do it at his concert.

via web

Finally got an answer to my StackOverflow question. It’s been a few days and I thought that it was hopeless.

via web

One of these months I’m going to get to my CSR rotation before LITERALLY the last minute. 45 so far, maybe 46 will be different.

via web

@marknoble No. This was my first RC helicopter event ever. This http://tr.im/gTbX is the extent of my abilities after seeing the pros.

via web in reply to marknoble

@DianaHsieh Volume. We hadn’t groomed her for a good couple months and her hair had become terribly matted so we had to shave it all off.

Salmon, barramundi, lobster ravioli, spinach ravioli. Some great samples today…

via Twitter for iPhone

Still not full after free Quizno’s sub so I’m off to Costco to top off on samples. Damn it feels good to be a cheapskate.
