There was something I was going to watch tonight on TV. Man, what was it?
My boss’s boss just got a new MacBook Air. I didn’t even know they could come with 128GB SSDs. Must’ve missed that memo.
@ironicsans If you can swing it, spring for the behind-the-scenes tour. It’s well worth it.
@redmonk You better know it!! I picked up the other freebies. I love OmniDiskSweeper so I was glad to have that for free too.
I’ve got to say that I really like Safari 4’s tabs on top and its speed. I’m still an OmniWeb guy at home and a Firefox guy at work, though.
The only thing I liked from Jindal was his statement that nothing is irreversible.
Count me as one not filled with hope after that speech. Far, far from it.
Ripping John Allison’s speech for time-shifted viewing on my iPhone using HandBrake: http://tr.im/gKGD
It must be really hard to be a Democratic senator with knee problems.
@mwickens Like this, but for musicians: http://tr.im/gKFO
I’ve found it hard to blog at The New Clarion lately; it feels like hell in a hand basket. It’s 1930 all over again; we should know better.
*sigh*
It beat out my previous go-to guide, which was Netscape’s online reference, when I lost the link a few years ago. Found: http://tr.im/gKhk
I shouldn’t admit it but my go-to reference for JavaScript is O’Reilly’s JavaScript: The Definitive Guide 3rd Edition http://tr.im/gKh2
VMWare Fusion’s autoprotect is going to save my bacon one day, I’m sure of it.
Wokka wokka do do yeah!
Sometimes I feel like most of my day consists of authenticating to various systems. Sometimes that’s actually true.
@Dannabug The Browns didn’t care one bit either.
@gregperk Looks like a great house! Congratulations!
Kids in bed, wife at bingo with friend. Write blog entry, watch Maverick, read Planned Chaos, or catch up on feeds. What to do, what to do..
@domaincheck is all better now…
@billbrown It worked! And I learned something really helpful about WebExceptions—that’ll be a blog entry on bblog for sure.
I’m about to see if my painstaking dedication to modularity has paid off. It’s a big moment since I’ve never tried this particular gamble.
I hate it when an API changes something serious and breaks the contract non-obviously without listing the change in the changelog, TWITTER!!
@Dannabug You’re not alone. Everyone thinks I’m outgoing and extroverted. I guess it’s an indication of just how introverted I am…
Not a fan of Myers-Briggs, but INTJ.
@haltse Yes, Jonathan Coulton would be excellent!!
Can’t shake this whole protocol buffers thing. I’m a man possessed…
Feeding the blogging itch by writing an entry about Somalia. I hope I don’t get typecast as the Africa-obsessed Objectivist.
I got a repeat on my weekly fortune cookie: “A small gift can bring joy to the whole family.” The first time I thought it meant my son. Now?
@billbrown I figured out Mystery Woman’s identity!! It wasn’t @wildfiction. I was *way off*. Let’s just say I was right to be unsettled.
I am in awe of the compression techniques of packer and JSMin. 11k source: 5k and 8k compressed, respectively. 5k is completely unreadable.
Entering bathroom, I had an unsettling episode of what I like to call “Dude Looks Like a Lady.”
I AM STARVING! One Chicken Chow Mein http://www.nissinfoods.c… for lunch is evidently insufficient for a growing boy like me…
@CarlSvanberg I came to Objectivism at 14 through http://tr.im/gqv3 I still have my copy of that, purchased from defunct Loompanics Ltd.
#goodthing Wrote my first jQuery plugin, deepening my respect. It’s for a new app I’m working on, so I can’t share the implementation.
@DianaHsieh That’s a good point. My wife wants to write a book about it, so I’m sure we’ll be discussing and nailing formulations down soon.
My tax return was rejected by the IRS because of newly-adopted son’s records. Now I have to go to the SSA office—at least it’s not the 1st.
@rationaljenn There are many times when I’ve written up a comment and then discarded it. I’m very much of the “to each their own” opinion.
@DianaHsieh Possibly. I regard parenting style as very much optional beyond a certain point and threshold.
@DianaHsieh I agree that it’s nice to read her parenting posts. They’re definitely food for thought even though I disagree with much.
@kristabellerina Not to be snarky (which means I’m being snarky) but http://www.twitterisntem…
I would switch to Chrome just for its equation of tab with process but I need extensions at work. With every fiber of my being need.
#goodthing I had forgotten that I installed the Stop Hammertime Firefox extension—it brought a smile this morning: http://tr.im/gok6
#goodthing I am finally caught up on the Peikoff Podcast. http://www.peikoff.com/
@mclazarus The Mel Gibson movie was great, but the 50s TV show it was based on is so so much better. It’s available on Netflix Instant View.
@mclazarus Travis and @HBinswanger are credits to Objectivism in those threads. I would have been more like The Others—quick to dismiss.
Watching “Hang ‘Em High”: great Eastwood film!
@Dannabug Welcome to the Twitterverse!
I love it when commenters do all the slap downs necessary on a blog. It saves me the trouble and it reminds me what a great audience I have!
Researching DSLs for form definition, I’m finding surprisingly little out there. Closest is jzForm. Oh, I guess I should check out Django…
I am *loving* this New York Times Article Skimmer: http://prototype.nytimes…
The Brown Family Chapter of the International Polar Bear Club met today for our annual swim. 59 degrees. Asses were frozen off.
@flyingg Did I ever tell you about Bill Brasky? I once saw him scissor-kick Angela Lansbury. http://tr.im/g505
It takes a very particular mood to sit through one of “Weird” Al’s eleven minute stream of consciousness songs. Two in a row, never.
Animal-style French fries at In ‘N’ Out are ridiculous. WhAt was I thinking???
@billbrown In all fairness, my previous iPod was a 2G with FireWire (the dock connector was the next iteration). So I’m easily impressed.
I finally had a legendary @prissycook cupcake. Excellent—all they’re cracked up to be. I can’t wait to try one of their big sisters.
“Court ruling won’t end debate”: http://tr.im/g3pa There’s no disproving articles of faith.
@PrissyCook I vote Scottsdale. Gilbert gets all the fruits of your labor (pun very much intended).
I love when a good framework reduces the amount of code you have to write to one line. Last time I did this thing, it took hundreds.
Hashtags are a very imperfect tagging mechanism: http://tr.im/fzc7 #1000
Jem’s They brought a recommendation of The Rockafeller Skank and Shiny Disco Balls. Hmm, okay, I can see that.
Every now and then, I make a comment that I really treasure: http://tr.im/fza3
WTH? How did The Beatles and Billy Joel get on my iPhone!?! Sometimes marriage has its downsides…
I’ve tried the S Diet long enough; it’s probably time to go back to the No S variety.
Genius is genius. It’s so nice to only have to find one song to match my mood. Tap Genius icon and now I’ve got a whole playlist. Wonderful.
Feels like a Barro’s night.
@asocialcontract One of our partners was lacking a cert and I worked a cross-sell into my email letting them know of it. Always Be Selling..
@911 I used the subjunctive form for a reason. What kind of piece o’ junk bot can’t distinguish subjunctive and imperative moods? Geesh.
Tuesdays: when my thoughts inevitably drift to the fact that there’s a new episode of Lost on tomorrow. Maybe I need help.
Twitterhea, sayeth @danesparza. Better than Twitterstipation, sayeth @billbrown.
Ethiopian rubber stamps: http://twitpic.com/1f5n0
Looking over my son’s adoption papers, I think it’s safe to say that Ethiopia’s rubber stamp industry must be booming.
“”They are part of programs designed to help people with need, and she does not see that as welfare.” Uh huh: http://tr.im/fm51
In a very intriguing blog entry, Mark Cuban announces that he’ll fund businesses in a new and very different way: http://tr.im/fm1p
@donniefitz2 This trip has been a series of flips: “we’re flying in an airplane?!,” “we’re going on vacation?!,” “we’re riding in a boat!?”
Hotel and rental car booked for our March trip to Seattle. We’re staying at the Westin. The kids are going to flip OUT over the indoor pool.
There are days when I’m sure glad to have Motrin around.
@dclevitt Not at all. I think the ASP.NET team has been careful not to disparage WebForms—it’s not going anywhere. Or it’ll be VB.NET…
Sometimes you just have to shake your head and wonder.
This sort of thing really rocks my benevolent universe premise: http://tr.im/ffea
@meisjc Tweetie is the best bar none. I’ve tried all the other ones.
267 items left in feed reader! Unfortunately, they’re all the meaty feeds that I’ve been putting off.
Fascinating anecdote about the market for burnt-out light bulbs in the Soviet Union: http://tr.im/f8mb
Back to the Future I, done. On to Back to the Future II. That’s right, it’s our semiannual BTTFathon. Maybe inspired by http://tr.im/f8ii
#goodthing My wife has been doing 14 Days of Love since 2/1. Today is the best day yet!! Let’s just say it involves nachos. Mmmm, nachos.
Obama: “That also means an economic recovery plan that is free from earmarks and pet projects.” Sweet! His first veto, coming up.
Woke up. Somehow I got The Girls CD player on single-song repeat for Bubble Gum Queen. I now understand why they came to our bed.
If things go south in a big way, my family’s prepared: http://twitpic.com/1cmhc
@wildfiction Mystery solved. Thanks!
@billbrown I’ve tried all the people who look like her that I *do* know in the directory but they’re in other offices. GAAAH!
A lady at work keeps smiling and waving and I have no idea who she is. This is fairly common for me, but I sense that I should know her.
“Worst economy since the Great Depression” from Barack Obama always struck me as a goal or challenge more than a fact.
Quizno’s day at the Daddy is such an incredible value, but I overdo it every freaking week. It appears that I’m powerless against the sammy.
I never thought I’d be emulating Hank Rearden. The prospect makes me shudder. (Thankfully, I’m not saddled with a Lillian.)
@sanbient Relaxation is a needed cure for many of the Internet, to be sure.
@DianaHsieh Well, if you want cute Paul action, here’s some video: http://tr.im/esib
This Web ad campaign with before and after pictures of someone’s torso sure has a lot of money behind it. I’m sick of seeing it everywhere.
#goodthing My blog entry (done with outline) turned out exactly as I wanted it. http://tr.im/err2
Yay, Opera’s working on a new JS engine! Phew! I was worried that they’d be relegated to also-ran status: http://tr.im/erii
“Science flies people to the moon. Religion flies people into skyscrappers.” http://tr.im/erft
@PrissyCook There’s an app for that: http://tinyurl.com/5jgdoq
@DianaHsieh Yeah, it’s like RSS for Twitter users. And they’re the ones most likely to already be using feeds. It’s a scourge.
@DianaHsieh Two schools of thought: adjunct to blogging (link with short comment) or entirely separate. Entry tweets are no-nos.
@CarlSvanberg That is simply fantastic. This is the closest I’ve come to that sort of crap: http://tr.im/eo73
Epstein does a terrible British accent.
The scene: http://twitpic.com/1bzjf
At Goldwater Institute for Richard Epstein lecture, so full I have to sit on the floor!!
#learned System.Security.Cryptography.HMACSHA1 exists and is pretty slick.
@CarlSvanberg Good points. I had an outline, but it was always in my mind and I think that I had a little crow problem if you get my drift.
@danesparza I know. We deserve all the umbrage and righteous indignation the Internet can muster.
Our family blog is under attack from fanatic mommybloggers assailing our heresy at switching back to disposable diapers. And I’m lovin’ it!
@CarlSvanberg OTOH, blogging encourages frequent writing which is exactly what is needed to develop good writing skills. It’s not the tool.
@sanbient Didn’t you watch the first season of Lost? You just need some rubber tubing and a sea urchin spine: http://tr.im/elyw
@mclazarus I’ve been using since 3, so I forget all the myriad coolnesses. $15?! I thought I paid $29.95 for v5.0…
After re-reading The Art of Non-Fiction http://tr.im/ei01 I realized that I had gotten into the habit of blogging without an outline. Bad!!!
@DianaHsieh And really you can say “Objectivist” douchebags because they’re generally just pale approximations. So I’ll go with probation…
I had left the default settings (inc. 2-pass) but setting const. quality to 60%, detelecine, decomb I shaved off MB/file w/ no visible loss.
Now that I’ve got an iPhone to call my very own, I’m transcoding some video I’ve had on my laptop. Handbrake is pretty damn cool!
@DianaHsieh Being in “social media.” In general, I find them insufferable so the less interaction, the better. The quandary: Objectivist.
Hmm, I’m torn about blocking a social media douchebag. That is seriously a first for me.
@codinghorror Add a sprinkling of bacon plus unicorns and rainbows and any site is better: http://www.6browns.com/
@mclazarus Also, it had the Awesome Bar long long ago (still better implemented too, I think). Also, shortcuts BLOW Firefox away.
@mclazarus Wait, not OmniWeb?! That’s my browser of choice. It’s the best browser ever. (I do miss Firefox add-ons, to be honest though.)
The key: “Turns out, no one knew we existed.” http://tr.im/ed6a
I like this article putting the controversy in perspective: http://tr.im/ed62
@mclazarus Good for you! It sounds great (and I listened to the recent tele-course with considerable interest). I wish she’d come out west.
At Olive Garden, more workers than patrons. Must be something going on.
@timebarrow 140 characters is quite insufficient to get my point across. Oh well.
@timebarrow What might appear to be frigidity could be a loving couple who just had a fight. You just assume you know what’s happening.
Sudden Lock Onset Dysphoria: that feeling you get after unsuccessfully typing your password twice.
@timebarrow Or so it would appear to an observer who knows nothing about their situation.
For lunch, I got four sammies, a bowl of broccoli cheese soup, bag of fruit snacks, Snickers bar, and a bag of Doritos for $2. I <3 GoDaddy.
“And it was cheaper to go buy a company that could make a … productivity suite, than it was to buy 42,000 licenses from Microsoft.”
@sanbient !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!!
The Pixar intro on Wall-E has Wall-E changing the Luxo lamp’s light bulb. I just noticed that he puts in a CFL. Lovely.
